In 1615 the Nuremberg apothecary Basilius Besler(1561-1622) published the Hortus Eystettensis.or the thorough and careful identification and lively illustration of all its plants,flowers and trees.
Even today it is still widely acknowledged as one of the great treasures of botanical literature.
The book represents almost 1100 plant types in a total of 367 copperplate engravings.
