A beautiful handcrafted object of traditional African Tribal Art from the late 1800's.Typical of the Turkana Tribe of Kenya.
Hand processed animal hide either from hippopotamus or rhinoseros used for making this type of shield.
Longford thick weathered leather, rectangular curved shape with wood and braided leather handle.
Later the use of leather ceased thus making the shields rare and very collectable and metal was used instead.
This piece is in excellent condition considering it's age,and excellent example of their workmanship,in reality a museum piece.A stunning display item and a great addition to a collection of African Art.I also have available 2 African Kota masks.
